Introduction to OSP: Influencers

1) The founding of Youtube - 2005, Twitter - 2006, Instagram - 2010.

2) An influencer is social media users – mostly women – with a large, devoted following, who give their followers access to a carefully curated version of their lives.

3) An example of an influence would be Niki Minaj who is a worldwide known influence specifically known for her rap music. She also has a large Instagram following of 228M and 26.3M+ on Youtube. She is brand ambassador of MaximBet, an online sports betting and gambling company and an offshoot of men's lifestyle magazine Maxim.

4)According to the article the influencer industry is very big as it is the fastest growing sector for small businesses in the world.

5) Problems of being an influence include the endless hours spent preparing for photo shoots as well as the constant demand from consumers

6) Audiences don't seem to mind being sold products by influencers because it can make them feel closer to there idols as they feel as they can resemble them closer.

7) Beauty is represented as unattainable as it is thought to owe its existence partly to the growth of cosmetic procedures, but also to the popularity of Instagram filters such as Facetune, which tweaks images to give a thinner face, bigger lips, smoother skin, larger eyes, and slimmer legs.

8) Although influencers can gives us entertainment and gives us a topic nof discussion amongst friends being an inluencer in my opinion is much easier that a regular job and pays a ridiculously high wage for its job. Influencers requires no education and not a lot of years spent revising and studying to be paid if not double more than those that do. Many of the problems of influencers seem to be what could be considered 'rich people problems' like the way they look, or the hate they receive online however in the real world there are bigger problems like war and poverty which many influencers don't take there time to address to there audiences. I also feel as if some influencers have too much of an influence as to how many young and middle aged people feel. For example when they don't know how to feel about a world issue they turn to there influencers to see what they would say however many times these infleuncers opinions are biased or uneducated opinions.
