Media language

1) Look at the Tatler Media Pack. Go to page 2: how does the editor introduce the magazine?

The editor introduces the magazine in a way to make it seem as if this models on the front covers were just living there daily lives and the photos were completely natural. The editor also speaks highly of the magazine making it seem better compared to other magazines as they mention it to be 'fabulous'.

2) Now go to page 4 of the Media Pack. Focus on the print magazine (NOT tatler.com - the website). List the key demographic details: age, gender %, ABC1 % (social class), HHI (Household Income), % of those living in London and the South East. What do these demographic details suggest about the average Tatler reader?

Circulation 80,035 , Readership 163,000 , Average HHI £261,572 , Female 73% ABC1 83% , AB 51% Average Age 41 , London/SE 70%. This suggests that the average Tatler reader would be a female who comes from a high class society.


3) Look at page 6. What do Tatler readers think about fashion? How much do they spend?

£843 million spent on fashion in the past year 96% of tatler readers and 93% of tatler.com users own designer fashion 81% of tatler readers and 75% of tatler.com users own designer shoes & accessories 62% of tatler readers agree ‘i often buy fashion products after seeing things advertised in magazines’ (index 126). Tatler readers seem to think of fashion as a necessary want and most of them can afford to be like this as there disposable income can cover most parts of there interests. They also seem to be easily encouraged or influenced to buy these certain products from Tatler.


4) Go to page 10. What are the special editions of Tatler that run throughout the year? What does this suggest about the Tatler audience? What about the pyschographic audience group that best fits Tatler?

January Travel Guide ,march Weddings Guide ,april Beauty & Cosmetic Surgery Guide ,june Spa Guide ,july Watches & Jewellery Guide ,october Schools Guide(inc. Tatler). This suggests that the Tatler audience feel like they have a designated purpose every month dependent on the Tatler magazines title. This makes more people want to buy Tatler as they have a variety of options. The psychographic group that best fits Tatler is females which could be because as stereo typically females stay at home and treat themselves the men go out and do the working the magazine set out something for them to do reinforcing this stereotype.

Representations

1) What celebrities or famous people are mentioned on the cover? Why do you think Tatler put them on the cover?
The celebrities mentioned on this cover are Boris Johnson' brother Max Emma Waymouth.

2) What do the cover lines suggest about the lifestyle of rich people in the UK?
The cover line suggests that rich, posh people don't need to work and only have to attend parties.

3) Looking at the image and cover lines together, what different groups of people are represented on the cover and how are they represented? (E.g. men/women/rich people/race & ethnicity etc.) 
The main flash presented is Emma Waymouth who is a mixed black female which would not normally be classified as a model for Tatler which is reflecting change in society. As well as this it is suggested that people who often travel tend to read Tatler which supports the idea of Brexit. This means that the Tatler readers are likely to vote for the conservatives.

4) Are there any stereotypes being reinforced or subverted? How? Why?
In the Tatler magazine the stereo type that rich people are lazy and do nothing is reinforced when it mentions 'how the social get married in a crisis'.

Social and cultural contexts

1) What types of people are NOT featured in Tatler? (Watch the clip above again if you need help with this - the clue is in the title 'Posh People')
The lower classes and the working classes as it is mainly targeted at the rich.

2) Tatler runs special issues on holidays, spa breaks, cosmetic surgery, watches and jewellery and private schools. What does this suggest about the magazine's representation of life in Britain? 
This suggests that the magazine is trying to imply the great lavishing life in Britain and practically ignores all problems and issues going on financially and economically in the country for a lot of other people.

3) What audience groups might be offended or insulted by the front cover of Tatler? 
The other parties trying to win an election and didn't get promoted or people who are against the movement of Brexit.

4) Find three other front covers for Tatler from different months. What issues, subjects or people are regularly featured in Tatler?
Majority of the magazine consist famous people on the central cover and if not drama the an exciting encouraging activity to do for that month.
