January assessment learner response

1) WWW: Sanila - a fairly decent attempt at this film assessment. A real strenghth is your knowledge of Hall's Reception theory and applying it to the unseen printed advert.

EBI : Revise vertical intergration - ensure you know everything about the film CSP before you respond as you do not want to leave gaps as it shows you do not know the CSP in depth.

2) Q1- 0 - carelessness

Q2- 1

Q3- 6 - more reference to wartime adverts and media terminology

Q4- 1 - lack of knowledge

Q5- 2

Q6- 8 - Lack of astute judgement and conclusions

3) Preferred reading - Women are portrayed in a subversive / non-conventional way as their strength and independence is highlighted by the image (pose / pride in facial expression etc.)

4) Vertical integration is when one conglomerate owns different companies in the same chain of production. Benefits of vertical integration are that they can gain more profit and there are more platforms for distribution.

5) Introduction - I partially disagree with this statement because...

I , Daniel Blake - Due to the gritty, hard hitting social message of the film it was marketed in a different way to the Hollywood ‘blockbuster’ Black Widow.

Black Widow - Black Widow as a Hollywood blockbuster cost $200m to make – far more than independent films. However, due to the impact of Covid-19 on cinemas and the film industry, the film only made $379m at the box office which is much lower than similar Marvel films that usually make around $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Conclusion - Even though generally independent films aren't even within a comparable range with Hollywood film (possibly because they have no desire to be) there are certain scenarios where it could be attainable for an indie film and a hollywood film to compete with one another.
