Camerawork : Blog Task

1. Three camera shots

Close Up Shot :The close up shot at 0.30 enlarges the girls face so we can see her expression more clearly which helps us as the audience to tell how she is feeling in this case jealousy. The close up at 0.38 on the woman was gradual as it started from a medium close up shot and slowly kept zooming. As an audience his rose the suspense and tension for us as she announces the plan of how they will find the doctor.

Establishing Shot :The establishing shot at 3.41 started off as a subversive shot of the tower emitting the radiation but the next cut right after shows the entire earth emitting this radiation. This would cause the audience to feel a sense of shock and surprise as they see how much this small tower in a lab can affect the world. It would also increases the intensity level as they start to feel a sensation of hope that the doctor will finally be found.

Over-the-shoulder Shot : The over-the-shoulder shot at 0.54 enhances the mystery segment of the scene. This is because as we can only see the back of the woman as she admits to creating the sub wave which shocks the rest of the characters and also the audience.

2. One camera angle :

High angle : At 3.32 we can see a a high angle toward a man who was standing bellow the radiation volts when they were rapidly speed up the tower. This makes the man look inferior to this tower and technology making the radiating volt shooting up the tower seem like a dramatic and climatic scene. The man looks stunned by how powerful the volts are suggesting he shocked by what he just did. The establishing shot that follows this scene further connotes that the this moment is going to be a revolutionary cause as it is so sensational. The high angle in this scene makes it seem like a crucial moment in this show making the audience await nervously to see what will happen next.

3. Mise-en-scene :

Props : The props in this scene make it look high tech and advanced. The media code to the audience is that they are not regular people but in fact revolutionary people who are ahead of out time. The props help communicate the knowledge and power of the characters as they're equipment is not something an ordinary person would own.

Costume:The characters seem to be wearing regular clothes which makes the audience feel somewhat closer to the characters as they seem relatable and are not presented as unreachable standards.  It makes the characters seem more child like and homely as they are not wearing any professional wear even though what they do is high tech and unrealistic.

Ext. Stranger Things camera work

Establishing shot : The first scene that is shown is an establishing shot of the laboratory at night. This makes the audience already understand the conventional atmosphere as to being a dark eerie and dystopian setting. The laboratory is a room or building equipped for scientific experiments, research, or teaching, or for the manufacture of drugs or chemicals so we can tell that this is going to have a science based aspect to it.

High angle :At 8.12 and 1.40 before this monster seems to attach its prey the victim is always shown in a high angle. This is because in this conventional scene the victims are helpless and clearly have no way out so this monster has the power. This makes the audience feel sympathy for the victim as they seem helpless and frightened but clearly have no way of escaping.
