Denotation and Connotation

 

Denotation :
 In this advert there is a boy who is directly staring into the camera. He is wearing a blue shirt which matches with the logo of water aid. The Water Aid logo is in the top left corner of the poster. The water aid slogan is presented in bold white letters next to the boy quoting 'Did toilets Not graves'.

Connotation :
As little boy directly stares into the camera it almost looks like he is pleading for help which would make the audience automatically feel sympathised and they would naturally feel guilty and selfish if they decided not to donate. The background looks very empty suggesting there resources are very scarce and therefore water is very limited. The slogan emphasises that there is a large population that are dying due to the lack of water and scarce resources in there environment.

Analysis :
This advert helps the audience understand that not everyone has the same amount as we do. We should share what we have and help the people in need to stop people from starving and dehydration as a community and give some of what we have to others to build a more equal world.



Denotation:
The key conventions in this advert the are 3 large burgers in the centre with the name of it underneath. On top of that there is an alliteration that states 'big. beefy . bliss'. In the bottom right corner there is a McDonald's logo with there well known slogan underneath stating 'i'm lovin' it'. In the background there is a bright red colour which is part of there colour theme of red , white and yellow.
Connotation :
The 3 burgers have been enlarged and placed in the centre with the names of each underneath to promote the company to new customers who would want to try a new restaurant or tourists who are visiting the country and looking for a place to eat. The alliteration above the burger is eye catching and describes the burger in a delectable way which would encourage someone to buy the burger. Their colour theme is consistent as they use the same colour as are in there logo in the advert. Their catchy slogan is snazzy and attracts a younger audience as its similar to the terminology they use on a daily basis.
Analysis :
This advert helps the audience understand that there products are large, beefy and delicious. This is also aimed at people who enjoy fast food as they would be easily attracted to a perfect looking burger and therefore this persuasive poster helps gain more customers.
